Today is Easter Sunday. <\/em><\/strong>Easter is a Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his death. Jesus of Nazareth died from crucifixion under the orders of Roman magistrate Pontius Pilate on Good Friday.*<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Meaning of Easter<\/strong>**
\u201cEaster is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus which occurred three days after his crucifixion by the Romans in the first century CE,\u201d explains professor Christy Cobb, Associate Professor of Christianity and Women\u2019s Studies at University of Denver. \u201cThe New Testament gospels describe Jesus\u2019s death and resurrection as occurring during the Jewish holiday of Passover, so Easter and Passover are linked historically. However, early Christians shifted the date of Easter so it does not always fall on the same time as Passover and many other Easter traditions are now distinct from that of Passover.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another fascinating piece of insight about Easter is the way it sheds a light on the joy of new life. \u201cMany of the prayers used on Easter include biblical language and verses that highlight resurrection and new life. For example, John 11:25 reads: \u2018I am the resurrection and the life,\u2019\u201d explains Cobb. Interestingly, per Cobb, this quote from John is from a passage where Jesus has brought his beloved friend Lazarus back to life. \u201cJesus says these words to Lazarus\u2019s sister, Martha, and then asks her if she believes. She affirms her belief and becomes the first of his followers to state directly that Jesus is the Messiah,\u201d elaborates Cobb.

What better way to celebrate Holy Week than to acknowledge the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

International Workers\u2019 Day, also known as\u00a0May Day,<\/em>\u00a0is a day celebrated worldwide on\u00a0May 1st, commemorating the historical struggle of workers\u2019 rights.\u00a0While not a federal holiday in the United States, May Day has strong ties to Chicago, particularly the\u00a0Haymarket Affair\u00a0of 1886<\/em>, which is considered a key event in the history of the labor movement. You are invited to join us in solidarity with one another to march on May 1st at 11 AM in Union Park (1501 W. Randolph Street). This year, there will be a week of action: marching with a goal of 1 million people on May 1st, stopping work on May 1st, 2nd, and 5th, and boycotting companies that cave into the MAGA agenda like Goya, Miller, Target, and Walmart.
