The Obama Presidential Center<\/strong> is set to open June 19, 2026. This center located in the Jackson Park area will serve as an athletic center, museum, library and all around community center focused on civic engagement and public access. June 19th is Juneteenth (officially Juneteenth National Independence Day),<\/strong> a U.S. federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States, celebrated annually on June 19. It marks the date in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure all enslaved people were freed, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
