Easter* is the most important Christian festival, celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion, symbolizing hope and new life. Observed in March or April, it concludes Holy Week, including Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Key Religious & Cultural Traditions*

  • Church Services: Many attend special services on Easter Sunday to celebrate the resurrection.
  • Easter Eggs: Eggs symbolize new life and the empty tomb. Traditions include dyeing, decorating, hiding, and hunting for eggs.
  • The Easter Bunny: Originating from German traditions, the bunny brings baskets of candy and eggs for children.
  • Family Meals: A large Sunday brunch or dinner is common to celebrate the end of Lent.
  • Egg Games: Activities include egg rolling, tapping, and dancing.

The Easter Season*

  • Lent: A 40-day period of reflection and fasting leading up to Easter.
  • Holy Week: Begins with Palm Sunday (Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem), includes Maundy Thursday (Last Supper), and Good Friday (Crucifixion).
  • Easter Octave: The eight-day period beginning on Easter Sunday celebrating the Resurrection.
