Reflection: In 1834, Edward Mote wrote the hymn, “My Hope is Built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.” Mr. Mote did not grow up in a home with a religious background, but he had enough spiritual experiences to know that God will/can supply all of our needs, and some of our wants. He goes on to write, “I dare note trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand. Where is your hope today? Is it built on solid ground or a weak foundation? In your walk with Christ, do you put your total trust in Him? Meditate on this hymnal and the following scriptures this week:
Psalm 28:6-7 – Praise be to the LORD for He has heard my cry for mercy. The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.
Isaiah 40:31 – …but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Psalm 62:5-8 – Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I shall not be shaken. My salvation and my honour depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Hebrews 6:19 – We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.
