Announcements:
Dear Langley Fellow Church Members,
I’m writing this letter to express my deepest appreciation and to thank you. My mother, Joan E. Lomax, was a faithful woman of God and loved ministry. She showered those around her with kind words and thoughtful prayers. My mother was wonderful and knew that this life was a gift. She knew that living her life faithfully and to the fullest was in return, her gift to God.
Thank you for organizing such a beautiful funeral service for my mother. The church has been such a blessing. We would like to take this time to thank each and every one of you. We are touched by your contributions. There are not enough words to fully express the heartfelt gratitude for sympathy, love, and overwhelming support you have extended to my family at this difficult time.
We thank Pastor Cynthia Thomas and the Langley church family. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we grieve over the loss of my mother.
Thank you and God bless you,
Timothy Lomax and the Lomax Family
Illinois Extends the Eviction Moratorium*
Three weeks ago, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention extended the eviction moratorium throughout October 2021 for areas of the country within high transmissions of COVID-19 virus. For more information call the Renter’s Right Hotline at (312) 742-7368 or discuss your case with an attorney at Legal Aid Chicago. Free legal help is also available through Cook County Legal Aid for Housing and Debt, and legal assistance for all Illinois residents can be found at Illinois Legal Aid.
While the future of the Eviction Moratorium is unclear, Illinois continues to provide rental assistance through the following organizations:
- Illinois Department of Human Services: offers rental assistance to tenants by connecting them to participating agencies who can assist with the application process.
- Connections for the Homeless: provides rental, mortgage, and utility payment assistance for suburban Cook County residents (based in Evanston, IL).
- Illinois Housing Development Authority: while tenant-led rental assistance applications are currently closed, current applicants can check their status, download additional documents, and review rental assistance guidelines. Homeowners’ assistance is expected to be available through the American Rescue Plan Act within the next few weeks.
Reflection:
Know the Savior* by Nancy B. Gibbs
Those of us who are alive today haven’t had the opportunity to have Jesus reside with us physically for two days as the Samaritans in today’s passage did. But he certaily lives inside our hearts. I think of these words oftentimes: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29). We are going to be highly honored in heaven because of our unseen faith in Jesus.
It is my heart’s desire to introduce the “unseen” Jesus to unbelievers. Whenever I do this and then see the sparkle of salvation in someone’s eyes, I know Jesus just entered this person’s heart.
There is great joy when we know God has used us to bring the good news to other people. In any conversation with someone else, I want to walk away knowing that if this person leaves the world, her or his next breath will be in heaven.
How do you trust even when you cannot see?
Stay prayerful and read the following daily:
2 Chronicles 20:17 (NLT) – “But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions, then stand still and watch the LORD’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you?
Psalm 28:7 (TPT) – “You are my Strength and my Shield from every danger. When I fully trust in you, help is on the way. I jump for joy and burst forth with ecstatic, passionate praise! I ewill sing songs of what you mean to me!”
