Reflection:
Worship Only the Lord*
In Jewish literature there is a story about Abraham’s quest to find a focus worthy of his worship. Accord to this story, Abraham saw the stars and said, “I will worship the stars.” Before long, however, the stars had set. Later he noticed the constellations and said, “I will worship the constellations.” But the constellations also set. Then he saw the moon and said, “I will worship the moon.” But the moon also set. Then Abraham saw the sun rising in all of its glory and said, “I will worship the sun.”
When the day was over and the sun had set, Abraham realized that the stars, the constellations, the moon, and the sun were all unworthy of his worship, for all had vanished from sight. Then Abraham said, “I will worship God, for only he abides forever.”
God alone is worthy of worship; everything else is an idol.
How has God shown you that he is worthy of your worship?
Stay prayerful and read the following daily:
Exodus 32:8 (NIV) – “The people have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol.”
Psalm 119:73b (NIV) – “Give me understanding to learn your commands”
John 14:27 (NIV) – “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
