A Prayer of Comfort for the New Year by Van Varner*
Heavenly Father,
At midnight,
When the old year dies,
And the new comes bounding in,
I draw strength from knowing
That in the next twelve months
The snows will go
The buds will burst
The heat will rise
The leaves will fly,
That all these things will happen
According to Your schedule
And in Your time;
That there is order in Your universe,
And that I am part of it.
Do you need prayer?

Tithes & Offerings: At this time, we are asking that you give your tithes and offerings through Bill Pay, only. Please do not mail or drop off your tithes and/or offering. Bill Pay can be set up through your bank (please call, go online, or visit your bank to establish this payment system). Thank you!
Winter Coat/Accessory Drive: Jan N.’s “Just One Coat” initiative has begun! We are asking every member (who is able) to select a coat from their personal closets, buy matching gloves, a hat and a scarf- then our time, talent and tithe could be realized for our giving month of December by providing a minimum of 31 (for each day) sets to bless women less fortunate. Since Plan A did not materialize December 2021, our hope is to begin planning for Plan B – a December 2022 coat drive. (Check your closet to determine if you have a “Nearly New Coat” or begin saving to purchase one).
In keeping with our spirit of giving, the Langley Women’s Ministry (and one man) LWM has already purchased, prepared, and delivered more than fifty scarves, hats and glove sets to the following shelters: The Primo Center for Women and Children (South Sangamon); Chicago Metropolitan Services (63rd); and the Salvation Army Family Shelter (North Lawrence).
Thanks and blessings to those who utilized their personal time/talent/tithe: Theresa Banks, Theresa Jenkins, Jessye Payne, Kyra Payne, Esq., Ann Washington, Derrick Washington and Brunetta Williams. We look forward to the coat drive at the end of the year 2022!

New Year’s Inspiration: “A Recipe for a Happy New Year” by Anonymous**
Take twelve fine, full-grown months; see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite; pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; in short, see that these months are freed from all the past—have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time. Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts. Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.
Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing— don’t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution. Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of good humor.
