Celebrate Black History
During the month of February, the Proclamation on National Black History Month, 2023 was signed by President Joseph Biden, Jr. Read more about the work that has been accomplished by the Biden-Harris administration to celebrate the legacy of Black Americans whose power to lead, to overcome, and to expand the meaning and practice of American democracy has helped our Nation become a more fair and just society. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/presidential-actions/2023/01/31/a-proclamation-on-national-black-history-month-2023/
Week 2
We highlighted, Rev. Samuel Strachan. Click on the link to read more.
Week 3
We are highlighting, Katherine Johnson. Born in 1918 in the little town of White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, Johnson was a research mathematician, who by her own admission, was simply fascinated by numbers. Fascinated by numbers and smart to boot, for by the time she was 10 years old, she was a high school freshman–a truly amazing feat in an era when school for African-Americans normally stopped at eighth grade for those who could indulge in that luxury. Read more about the girl who loved to count.
Week 4
“The Negro Motorist Green Book” guided Black Americans to thousands of businesses for over thirty years. When the first “Green Book” was published, the American road was a metaphor for freedom: freedom to change your present situation, determine your destiny, and travel.
