Reflections:
In celebration of Black History Month during February 2021, we will offer quotes of inspiration, hope and love from a variety of people throughout our history and the next generation. We hope the messages will uplift you throughout the year. Know that we make history 365 days a year and inspiration can be found in serving the Lord.
We are blessed to be a blessing to others – Mother Nola Ivy
Standing against discrimination for some, while supporting discrimination against others hurts us all – DaShanne Stokes
Do not be silent; there is no limit to the power that may be released through you – Howard Thurman
Q: How is Social Justice and Black Lives Matter affecting your life today? R: Social Justice and the Black Lives Matter movement have made a lot of progress over the years. Throughout history, there have been a lot of sacrifices made to give the Black community a better life, so we need to continue walking down that path made for us to succeed. As a young Black woman, I always was told about the unfairness I might experience and it gave me the strength to do my best to be more than what was expected of me. I believe in Social Justice and Black Lives Matter because they are not just about Black lives, but everyone who is discriminated against. – Leancia (Leelee) B.
Lift Every Voice and Sing* – Rendition by Kirk Franklin (*Links take you to YouTube and poets.org)
Lift Every Voice and Sing written by James Weldon Johnson* – 1871-1938
Lift Every Voice and Sing,
Till earth and heaven ring,
Ring with the harmonies of Liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise
High as the list’ning skies,
Let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
Let us march on till victory is won.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails…
Stay prayerful and read the following daily:
