Prayer Focus: The prayer focus for the month of August is the following: 1. The opening of schools; 2. The elimination of COVID-19; and 3. A prayer against the violence in Chicago. “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7). Join us as we focus, together, on these requests.

Reflection: Stepping Out in Belief***
There’s an old story that illustrates the way belief about someone can differ from belief in the same person. A crowd watched a high-wire artist preparing to push a wheelbarrow across a rope over a rushing waterfall far below. “How many of you believe I can make it to the other side?” the wire-walker asked the observers. Plenty of people in the crowd raised their hands and voiced their belief.
“Then can I get a volunteer to climb into the wheelbarrow and ride along?” the performer challenged. All hands went down, and the crowd grew silent.
Many people in the world believe what they have heard about Jesus: that he lived on earth and that he was a good teacher who shared God’s message. But far fewer are willing to place their lives into his hands and surrender themselves to Jesus as their savior. That is truly a life-or-death commitment.
How can you show others that you trust Jesus fully? Read 1 John 5:6-12.
Stay prayerful and read the following daily:
Proverbs 3:5-6, (NIV) – “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Psalm 37:5, (ESV) – “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act.”
Romans 8:28, (NIV) –“We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Psalm 62:8, (NIV) -“Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge.“
